            About

            Welcome to Loading Today ✨

Loading Today is a playful OS-inspired escape built for the CodeTV Hackathon — a soothing, interactive page you can keep open while you work, vibe, or take a tiny digital breather.

The idea is simple: it shows how much of the day has “loaded” so far — a gentle reminder to pause, look out the window, and take a breath between tasks and tabs.

I’m Eric Van Holtz, and I built Loading Today to make the browser feel calmer, cozier, and a bit more alive — with animated backgrounds, environmental sounds, fun interactions, and branded moments that feel like part of the world.

A browser extension is on the way, bringing Loading Today to your new tab page as a peaceful place to land every time you open a browser window. The extension will also bring the latest news into one spot, so you can catch up, reset, and get back to your day without bouncing all over the internet.

Interested in sponsoring the project or bringing your brand into the experience? Sponsorships can include a branded theme, custom wallpaper, dedicated app(s), browser home page placement, dock presence, announcements for your brand, products, or services, and more.

            Privacy & Legal

Loading Today is designed to feel cozy, not creepy. We collect as little as possible and keep most of your settings on your own device.

            Approximate location

When you visit, we look up your approximate city and timezone using your IP address (via third-party geolocation services). This powers local weather, time-of-day moods, and location-aware copy. If lookup fails, we fall back to Detroit, Michigan — where Loading Today was built.

            Weather data

Weather is fetched from Open-Meteo using your approximate coordinates. Results are cached in your browser for up to an hour.

            Local storage

Preferences such as your chosen theme, wallpaper, audio settings, clock style, and window positions are saved in your browser’s local storage. This data never leaves your device unless you clear it.

            Cookies

We set one functional cookie (loading-today-info-intro-seen) so the welcome window doesn’t open every time you return. It lasts up to one year and contains no personal information.

            Third-party embeds

Some features load content from other services — for example YouTube (Code TV) and Tenor (terminal memes). Those services may set their own cookies or collect usage data under their own policies.

Optional clock typefaces and the Notes handwriting font are loaded from Google Fonts when used. That request may share your IP address with Google under Google’s privacy policy.

            Analytics

We use Fathom Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — page views, referrers, and general usage patterns. Fathom is cookie-free, does not track individuals across sites, and does not sell data. We do not use advertising trackers.
